Press release of the Netherlands World Broadcasting Radio: Love is you, the title of the first album of Carlo "Al Goodah" Goedhart. He is best known for his concerts national & international with the Surinamese-Dutch afro Caribean music band Fra Fra Sound, but Carlo has been running for a while. In Suriname he started as a 10-year-old singer by joining the Peace Forever children songfestival. He sang classical, pop and kaseko. Goedhart came to the Netherlands, did the Rotterdam Conservatory and toured with various pop bands. But now finds Carlo it's time for his own Cd. Under his stage name Al Goodah he swings a few skulls. In comparison with Al Jarreau he reacts honored: this is a great compliment. He is one of my teachers, so to speak. Goodah was his nickname among schoolmates. The name Al comes from Alfred, his second name. It was also his father's name, his mother noticed. On the CD are different styles, which he summarized under the heading Jem; Jazz Entertainment Music. It's not traditional Jazz. It is a combination of soul, funk and some blues. The late Referend Gilly Polanen opens one of the numbers wich it's in Sranan Tongo. The insistent voice of the deceased Reverend Gilly Polanen penetrates all your bones. If Gilly says something, then the messeages it is definitely premeates. His message is aimed at a bright future;one day we will collectively write a river of love. We will all be one people. When Al Goodah is reminded of the children's contest, he laughed. He participated with the song I Can See Clearly now and he can still be playing nicely. I did not win. It was my first gig. I was required by the teachers that I had to represent the school. A wrong choice, I was dying of nerves. Stevie Wonder Music was his passion and his life, Goedhart therefore neglected his school;I ran away from home secretly in order to rehearse with Exodus. With the band were he sung covers of bands like Earth, Wind & Fire. But Stevie Wonder was my greatest inspiration. I have all the songs of Stevie Wonder, documentaries, movies, you name it. I'm really "obsessed" with Stevie Wonder his music. The CD "Love Is You" at least Al Goodah performs a composition of his hero: Knocks me off my feet. The Classical music that he has sung in a choir, making him a versatile musician; in Suriname I sung and played any kind of music.I've done Latin, pop, soul, jazz, kaseko....etc. Ultimately that led to his membership of Fra Fra Sound, a jazz band. That was a new experience for me. I am not a singer in the band, but a musician. I use my voice as an instrument. Finally Al Goodah own first album, it is not closure, but a beginning.
